MLB Pickups of the Day for August 27th

  • Hi Fantasy Baseball Community,

Welcome to another Sunday rendition of SportsEthos Daily Adds. For additional add content, feel free to follow me on @backpickfantasy on Twitter.

    Jordan Wicks (SP, Cubs)

Wicks possesses a nasty changeup, which he showed off in his debut for the Cubs. Wicks went 5 innings with 9 Ks, to earn the win against the Brewers on Saturday. Across AA and AAA in 2023, Wicks put up a 3.55 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 99 Ks in 91.1 innings. In 193 career minor league innings, Wicks struck out 225 batters. His K upside is immense, and in 10-12 team leagues where you need K rate and an SP, I’m fine adding Wicks to see where this goes. Wicks was a first round draft pick in 2021 for the Cubs, and I really like the upside here.

    Parker Meadows (OF, Tigers)

Parker Meadows, top ten Detroit Tigers prospect, burst onto the fantasy scene the last week with a 6-for-17 (coming into Sunday) performance so far since his call-up, including a game winning home run on Friday night and a stolen base on Saturday. Meadows hit .256 in the minors this year, with an interesting 19 HR and 19 SBs down on the farm in 449 at bats. Anytime I see a guy with 20/20 type numbers in the minors (think Zack Gelof) get called up, I immediately add to my watch lists. In 14+ leagues, I’m comfortable adding Meadows to see where this goes, and if he can come close to replicating his MLB numbers so far, he’ll be on the standard 10-12 team add button for many. I see Meadows as a solid bat stream.
