MLB Pickups of the Day for August 12th

  • Saturday is here and it brings with it a terrible August heatwave. Which means you have a very good reason for staying indoors, enjoying the modern wonder that is air conditioning and scouring the waiver wire for guys who can help you in your fantasy championship aspirations.

    Zach Gelof (22% rostered, Yahoo)

Gelof was called up almost exactly a month ago and has been a 4-category contributor from the get go. In his first 87 MLB at bats, Gelof has produced a line of .253/16/6/11/6 with an .886 OPS. Gelof has enough pop and speed to be a 25ish-homer, 20-steal middle infielder, who will strike out a lot, but probably hit around .240-.250. Gelof has been hitting out of the 2 or 3 spot in the lineup and, since his call up, he’s the only 2B with 6 or more steals with 6 or more homers (Ha-Seong Kim has 5/11 and CJ Abrams has 4/14 and they are the only other 2B with 4 or more homers and 6 or more SB). He is rostered at a very low percentage for a midseason call-up with the power/speed upside he has, as I believe he should be owned in all 14-team or more leagues and even many deeper 12-team leagues.
