Second base might be the only position where the absolutely cream of the crop, the plus-plus producers, are all over the age of 30. The top four second baseman, currently, are 32 years old (Mookie Betts), 31 years old (Ketel Marte) and 34 years old (Jose Altuve, Marcus Semien). Hope and youth are on the way though, with half of the top 10 being 28 years old or younger, with four of the five aged 25 years or younger (Jordan Westburg, Matt McLain, Brice Turang and the precocious Jackson Holliday, who is only 21). The youth movement doesn’t end there, with half of the remaining 20 players no older than 25 and only six of the entire 30 players over the age of 30. There’s tons of talent in the minor leagues, some of which we will see this year (Travis Bazzana, Kristian Campbell, Christian Moore), some probably next year (James Triantos, Luke Keaschall) and others at least two years away (Termarr Johnson, Michael Arroyo).
