We got some committees, performance concerns and a arms coming off the injured list that are/could be changing the saves landscape.
We got another save in ATL this week but it wasn’t to Lee. Do we care about the struggles of Robert Suarez or Camilo Doval? Is there any more clarity to the committee in Philly? Is there now a committee in Texas? Do we trust what Aaron Boone said about Luke Weaver when he returned?
And then you have the ever changing holds landscape.
I’ve got your answers in my latest installment of Paul’s Call to the ‘Pen!
The closers I will label in the following tiers (I’ve added a fourth tier from last year and modified my definition of ‘weak’*)
Strong – they are definitely the closer.
Probably – they look to be the closer, for now.
Weak – there is a good chance they don’t get the next save chance*
Committee – We just don’t know who will get the ball in the ninth. Shrug.Alright, let’s get into it!
NOTE; All stats are for games played through June 30. .
Giants
Closer – Camilo Doval – Strong
Doval got the only save in the last seven days.
He had allowed five earned run in 1.2 innings across two outings prior to a perfect ninth with two K’s to convert a save the last time out.
If he coughs it up again soon, deeper leagues can scoop up Randy Rodriguez, just in case.
Holds
Tyler Rogers, Ryan Walker, Rodriguez and Erik Miller each got a hold.
Rogers’ coughed up a couple of runs this week but has been steady all year and figures to still be a holds league play.
Walker and Rodriguez also figure to be firmly in the high-leverage mix and should be on holds rosters.
Though Walker might fall out of favor here soon as he has struggled and Rodriguez and, until recently, Rogers have not.
