MLB Pickups of the Day for June 29th

  • Just a month short of the trade deadline, our idea of buyers and sellers is starting to take shape, and with roster moves, fantasy opportunities follow. Below, I’ll have four pickups to help your team with the present and future in mind.

    Ronny Mauricio, SS

Ronny Mauricio is arguably the most talented hitter in the minor leagues, with his rare combination of bat-to-ball skills and incredible raw power. In fact, no AAA hitter whiffed as little as Mauricio with an average exit velocity within a mph, and the only player with a better avg. EV at all was the Reds Elly De La Cruz (who I called as a must-add 6 weeks ago). While he won’t walk much at all, his offensive ceiling is in the stars because of these tools, warranting legitimate comparisons to De La Cruz. With the Mets unexpectedly in a position to sell barring a quick turnaround, and Mauricio getting playing time in AAA at both second base and left field, an imminent call-up could make him an invaluable fantasy piece with excellent positional versatility.
