The Rockets are trading Trevor Ariza and the No. 16 pick in Wednesday's draft to the Pistons for a future first-round pick.
The pick that Detroit is sending to the Rockets will be heavily protected – top-16 protected in 2021-24, top-10 protected in 2025-26, top-9 protected in 27 and it turns into a second-rounder if unconveyed at that time. Ariza is on his way to a new team just days after being traded to the Rockets. The Rockets have a big offseason in front of them as they try to make peace with their disgruntled superstars. The braintrust is choosing to rely on signing veterans as opposed to taking a youngster in the middle of the first-round in tonight's draft. Ariza could have value in Detroit if he is part of the team's plans for next season.
