According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, Anthony Davis will opt out of the $28.7M player option he would be owed in 2020-21 and will re-sign a new contract with the Lakers.

This move is a financial move as Davis has can earn more money by signing a new contract than he would have by opting in to his option for 2020-21. The length of the preferred new deal is unknown but LeBron James is under contract for the upcoming two seasons, including a player option for the 2021-22 campaign. It seems likely that two of the best players in the modern NBA will stay together to win as many accolades as possible while they can.
