Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic is confident that James Johnson will exercise his player option to stay with the Wolves next season.
It's difficult to imagine Johnson fetching $16,000,000 on the open market, and he should have a fair shot to carve out a decent role on a young Wolves roster next season. He spent most of his time at center or power forward once he joined the Wolves mid-season, and he will have to adjust his game to fit next to a healthy Karl-Anthony Towns initially. Nonetheless, Johnson could be an important veteran presence who makes his teammates better. He could land the first shot at the starting power forward job when the Wolves are focused on winning basketball games in the early going next year.
