Auction Values multiplier

Hi All -- The budget for the Draft Guide: Auction Values was set to $100, but many of us start with a budget of $200 (minus costs for keepers, at least in my 9-cat league). An easy way to extrapolate the predicted auction values is to multiply by 2, but given the outsized value of stars in fantasy I was wondering if a different multiplier may be preferred to go from a $100 budget to $200.

This is great, thanks Chris. I like the idea of stratifying and taking the percentage of AV within a stratum. Just one clarification question:

You said the 20% goes to: 1-6, 7-14, 12-26, 27-48 and 49-156. But you have the second and third tier overlapping. Can you clarify where you stop the second and start the third tiers?

My original response for anyone interested....

I just completed my auction draft and have been using the values along with the B150 for 3-4 years now in order to prep for it. Our draft also has a $200 budget. Here is my process:

1) Merge the auction values with the B150 using vlookup in excel and then sort by B150 (the reason why i sort by the B150 and not the auction values is that they don't line up for some reason, but i want the guys higher on the B150 to get higher multiplier even if they have lower projected AVs)
2) Use historical auction data (or the base levels) to determine allocation of auction $... for example in my auction the top 6 players had 20% of the total auction pool spent on them... 7-14 had the next 20% spent on them, 15-26 made up the next 20% chunk, 27-48 had the next 20% chunk, and 49-156 made up the final 20% of the Auction dollars
3) adjust the values using this information, so if the top 6 "should" get $480 (20%) of the auction resources, adjust those values using a simple formula like 480*(Player 1 AV / Players 1-6 Total AV) (this is why I choose to sort by B150 instead of auction values)
4) After doing this for the whole draft in segments, I take the bottom 40-50 players and set their values to $1 as based on my leagues history this is the number of $1 players that usually fill out rosters.. I take the extra money and re-allocate it to the rest of the players (all the ones you didnt set to $1) using a formula like AV*((2400 - x)/y) where x is the number of players you set to $1 and y is the total AV of the rest of the pool not including $1 players.

If done correctly (and I didnt do a terrible job of explaining my process) this should result in a player pool that equals 2400 for a 12 TM pool and should appropriately devalue the last players to $1 and allocate the extra money to the appropriate stars. Has worked well for me in the past and allows me to easily fill out a roster that is entirely comprised of top 80 or so B150 guys with a stud or two anchoring the squad.
