The Washington Commanders (3-4) travel north to face the New England Patriots (2-6). The Commanders’ offense and QB Sam Howell looked awesome in Week 8 against Philadelphia despite coming away with a loss. The Patriots could not keep up with the explosive Miami offense in Week 8 and also came away with a loss. Both teams look to be rebuilding in the 2023 season.

Main Storylines to Watch

What do Patriots fans have to look forward to? The Patriots season has not been a success so far. Yes, they beat the division rival Buffalo Bills, but other than that game it has not looked pretty. Mac Jones does not seem to be the guy at QB and their best WR Kendrick Bourne is now out for the season. The defense has looked up and down all season, but it’s hard to say they are a bad defense with how bad the offense has looked and continually put the defense in bad situations to succeed. Hopefully, the coaching staff will start getting the young WRs Demario Douglas and Tyquan Thorton more involved in the offense to see what they have. I find it hard to believe the Patriots will be bad enough to take part in the Caleb Williams and Drake Maye sweepstakes, but this offense needs a new direction.

Can the Commanders’ offense build on their success in Week 8? The Commanders’ offense scored 31 points and put up over 400 yards of offense in the loss to the Eagles in Week 8. The Commanders now succeeded in both games against Philadelphia, but they have yet to look that good against any other team. The Commanders were sellers at the trade deadline and got off of two of their top defensive ends. This team could be fun to watch if their offense continues to build on their success. With the losses on defense, the Commanders will need to score points if they want to competitive.
