Mr. Irrelevant of the 2022 draft, Brock Purdy, and his plethora of weapons travel to Pittsburgh to face a daunting defense and a potential budding QB in Kenny Pickett. The Steelers are expecting a big step up from the QB and his fellow sophomore, WR George Pickens. Both teams are sporting powerful defenses that could cause trouble for the dueling, young QBs.

Main Storylines to Watch

Was Brock Purdy’s success just a flash in the pan? Anyone around the 49ers NFC Championship run a year ago is familiar with Brock Purdy by now. A rookie selected with the final pick of the NFL draft leading a team deep into the playoffs is an excellent storyline. It remains to be seen whether he will have the same success now with film available to opposing DCs. The weapons surrounding him are still some of the best in the game and the Kyle Shanahan offense has thrived without star QB play in recent years. The Steelers pass rush will put the pressure on Purdy and challenge him right out the gate in 2023.

Diontae or George? Will Pickens begin his breakout campaign immediately, or will Diontae Johnson remain the top target in the Steelers offense? It will be important to see how the situation plays out to know which Steelers WR you need to roster. One or the other could be a potential buy-low or sell-high candidate if your leaguemates overreact to Week 1.
