Must Avoid Fantasy Quarterbacks

  • 1. Jared Goff

    2023 Fantasy Finish: QB7

    Schedule Outlook:

Easiest Opponents: Week 1 Los Angeles Rams, Week 3 Arizona Cardinals, Week 8 Tennessee Titans

Hardest Opponents: Week 6 Dallas Cowboys, Week 15 Buffalo Bills, Week 17 San Francisco 49ers

Consistency is the name of the game in fantasy, and most of the guys on this list have concerns about consistency in every position. Starting with Jared Goff. The hero of Detroit led the Lions to their first NFC Championship Game Since 1991. With an offense that was absolutely on fire, finishing the season number two in total pass yards with 4401, number nine in passes attempted with 606, Number seven in passes completed with 408 and most importantly number four in passing touchdowns with 30. On the surface, that seems like a must-start quarterback in fantasy football, but if you look deeper into the week-by-week numbers, you realize that stats and rankings, while important, are not the whole story of Jared Goff’s fantasy season.  He finished last year only averaging 17 fantasy points a game. In the stretch run to the fantasy playoffs, Weeks 7-14 with 9.36, 12.68, Bye,  21.12, 16.7, 18.8, 16.32, 6.44 Fantasy Points. The reality is that the quarterback seven last year is much better off being on your roster as a backup. While he could be nice in a spot start if need be with an injury or a one-week stream, the Lions’ offense wasn’t indicative of Jared Goff’s week-to-week fantasy performance, as he failed to hit 20 points most weeks.
