The Hawks and Clippers connected on a minor deal on Thursday, with LA sending guard Derrick Walton and cash considerations to Atlanta. In return, the Hawks dealt away a second-round pick in 2022 that is top-55 protected.

The 6’6” sophomore is back in the NBA after spending a year in Germany and Lithuania, first appearing in the Association with the Heat back in 2017-18.

Walton has appeared in 23 games with the Clippers this season, including a start, averaging 2.2 points, 0.7 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 0.2 steals and 0.4 3-pointers (at a .429 conversion rate) in 9.7 minutes per contest.

The Hawks have already requested waivers on Walton, as they have plenty of point guard depth in the form of Trae Young, Jeff Teague and Brandon Goodwin. His 3-point shooting should help him land another gig somewhere.

This trade is mostly about the Clippers opening up a roster spot, which they would use to make an impact move later in the day.
