MLB Two-Start Pitchers – Week of May 1st

  • Drew Smyly

We’ll look into the slate of two-start pitchers each week and make some suggestions that are hopefully available on the waiver wire to fill out your fantasy baseball roster.

Of the widely available pitchers, there are a few good options this week. We also have some possible plays you can look at if you’re desperate for volume or are looking to add to your points league rosters. As always, there’s also a bunch of two-starts to avoid altogether.

    The Main Plays

Drew Smyly LHP (CHC) – @WSN, MIA

    Yahoo 44%, ESPN 16%
You know that Drew Smyly was soooo close to a no-hitter last week against the Dodgers, but he’s been solid this season after his first start when he got smacked around by the Reds (it’s hard finding a starter that hasn’t been smacked around at least once early this season). He has posted a 3.21 ERA and 3.21 FIP with a 0.93 WHIP in his five starts. Outside of his first start, he has a 1.54 ERA and 0.64 WHIP.

And just look at his two opponents this week. Both Washington and Miami have well below-average offenses this season. The Nationals rank 24th with a .300 team wOBA and an 85 wRC+. The Marlins rank 20th with a .301 wOBA and a 90 wRC+. Both teams have done better versus lefties, but I still like the matchups nonetheless especially in the parks that are playing neutral this season.
