Timing in your roster moves is one of the keys to securing a fantasy championship, knowing when to trade away guys outperforming their metrics and looking to secure underperforming players whose pedigree or underlying statistics point upward. Throughout this article, I’ll be listing six names, three that I believe owners should cash in on at the current deflated value, and three names that I think owners should sell their stock on while their value is as high as it will be all season.
Undervalued Players to Buy:
Ryan Mountcastle 1B Orioles
Someone I had in my article last week the night he exploded for 2 homers and 9 RBIs against Oakland, so I decided to remove him because it looked as if the window was closed. Fortunately for owners, here is your chance to buy the dip! Mountcastle’s 6 homers and 20 RBI are both great but the .217 batting average may give you some leeway in a trade opportunity. Even if an owner doesn’t feel panicked (I am sure some are), I would feel comfortable paying the asking price for him because the asking price won’t ultimately match what the underlying statistics are saying Mountcastle’s performance is at.
His xBa is sitting at .294 which is a -0.091 differential which is the tenth widest margin in baseball of players qualified. Mountcastle is also top 15 in all of baseball in hard-hit percentage and average exit velocity, while being second in all of baseball with 12 barrels recorded. The 6 homers and 20 RBI are impressive, but the peripheral stats suggest he should even be outperforming those numbers. Go get a share of Mountcastle on your squad!
