MLB Pickups of the Day for June 22

  • From one prospect who could immediately provide blue chip value, to another that I think profiles as a super-utility player, I’ve got four pickups for all needs and leagues today.

    Gavin Williams, SP

For those who follow me on Twitter (@nbakerngb) my immediate recommendation following the call-up of Gavin Williams was noted, and I’ll go into further detail here. In my opinion, Williams is the best advanced pitching prospect left in the minors, and his stats across AA and AAA ball this year more than back that up. Williams posted a 2.39 ERA with 81 strikeouts in 60 IP across both levels, allowing only a .170 BAA in that span. After being drafted by Cleveland in the first round in 2021, he only took nine dominating starts to earn a promotion to AA, and a subsequent promotion to AAA early this year. With 230 strikeouts in just 175 career minor league IP, Williams has genuine ace upside, and should receive ample opportunity to establish himself with Triston McKenzie out long-term.
