MLB Pickups of the Day for June 10th

  • Welcome to the weekend and another pickups of the day. Let’s start your weekend off right with a quartet of bats that you should consider adding to your squad.

Gary Sanchez, C, San Diego Padres – Yahoo 21%, Fantrax 37%

Gary Sanchez started the season a free agent, then was picked up by the Giants on April 1st, spent a month in the minors before being released, signed with the Mets a week later, then was placed on waivers three weeks later, where he was finally given a home and a starting spot when the Padres claimed him. Since being claimed, all Gary has done is mash, with 7 of his 10 hits the extra base variety (and 5 of those are home runs), scoring 8 runs, driving in 11 and carrying a 10:3 strikeout to walk ratio. Though it is a super small sample size, Sanchez is showing better swing discipline than ever before, with career best swing %, swinging strike %, contact % and outside swing %. And he is doing that while also putting the ball in the air (whether by line drive or fly ball) 75% of the time and swinging out of his boots, masking soft contact only 8.3% of the time. He won’t maintain this hot streak the entire summer, but if you start two catchers, your current catcher is injured or you play in a 14 team or deeper league, Sanchez’s hot bat should be ridden until it cools off.
