MLB Pickups of the Day for August 5th

  • The first Saturday of August means two things: the MLB trade deadline has passed and we’re about 4 weeks away from the fantasy baseball playoffs kicking off. So let’s take a look at the waiver wire and see if we can find some help for our teams.

    Curtis Mead (5%, Yahoo)

Just called up yesterday, Mead is a priority add in most leagues 14 teams or deeper. He is one of the more polished MiLB bats. Has some pop in the bat (probably a 20ish homer guy), has a very solid K:BB (32:28), has a high floor batting average (.280 or higher) and will be platooned in Tampa. I know, one of those things is not like the others, but, in regards to his playing time, reference this tweet:

Mead is worth rostering and playing the start/sit game in daily leagues and starting in weekly leagues where the Rays face multiple left handed starters.
