MLB Trade Advice: Buy Low and Sell High Candidates for Week 17

  • As a fantasy baseball manager, I’m always looking to maximize my roster in any way possible. One of the oldest but sometimes misused tactics are buying low on players who are underperforming and selling high on players that are expected to regress in some capacity. This season I have been crushing it, suggesting buy-lows on Justin Verlander and Nathan Eovaldi before his heater, while also recommending sell-highs on James Outman and Patrick Wisdom. With that, I will get into 2 guys that you should target as buy-low candidates and 2 guys you should look to trade based on their inflated value. I might’ve mentioned a few names on my Twitter (@Andrew_FBB) so you can also check them out there!

    Undervalued Players to Buy

    Pete Alonso

It’s hard to label a guy with 26 home runs at this point in the season as a buy-low candidate but I really think Pete Alonso is in store for a huge second half. He is only hitting .204 though with 63 RBIs through 372 plate appearances. The xBA though sits at around .251 which is a huge leap from his true batting average. His raw power is still there, sitting in the 89th percentile in max exit velocity and the 88th percentile in barrel percentage. If the Polar Bear can just get his average up to around .240 compared to the .251 xBA this is a great buying opportunity, especially for one of the premier power bats in the game. I’d look to acquire Pete ASAP.
