Fantasy Recap: Saints @ Falcons (9/11/22)

  • Final Score: Saints 27, Falcons 26 (Falcons covered +5.5, O 43)

It was one of those games that Falcons fans have gotten used to ever since the infamous Superbowl meltdown they had to Tom Brady and the Patriots in 2017. Atlanta’s rushing attack allowed them to take a 23-10 lead into the fourth quarter, but they ultimately fell to their division rival after Younghoe Koo missed a 63-yard FG attempt to end their hopes.

Despite not throwing for a single touchdown on the day, Mariota actually delivered a top-10 QB performance on the week (MNF not withstanding) because of his rushing ability (12, 72, 1). However, he’ll need to continue to rely on his legs to continue to be a streaming option as he had just 215 yards in the air with no touchdowns and two fumbles (one was recovered). For those managers in need of a streaming QB with Dak Prescott rostered, we’d still steer clear of Mariota in Week 2 given the fact that he’ll be matched up with an angry 0-1 Rams squad that features arguably the best defender in all of football, Aaron Donald.

The rookie debut of Drake London was very encouraging as he tied Kyle Pitts for the team-lead in targets (7), and finished with a respectable fantasy line of five receptions, 74 yards & no touchdowns. There may be some ups and downs during his rookie season, but London displayed why he belongs in the flex conversation on a weekly basis moving forward. The rest of the Wideouts are not worth monitoring for fantasy purposes.

Another Week 1 of Kyle Pitts’ career ended with another disappointment as he finished with just 19 yards on two catches. Better days are ahead for the phenomenal athlete, and perhaps this gives a slight buy-low window for the TE ahead of a Week 2 matchup that should have the Falcons throwing the ball more than what we saw on Sunday.
