Broncos (-275) at Seahawks (+6.5); Total of 44
The Russ revenge tour opens in Seattle under the bright MNF lights which is also a rematch of Super Bowl XLVIII. You really can’t write a better script than that so kudos goes to the schedule-makers. The rebuilding Seahawks and their abysmal defense will be ripe for Wilson to pick apart as he gets his feet wet wearing the blue and orange. Things obviously got salty towards the end of his time in the Pacific Northwest, so I would expect the oven mitts to be off for Wilson in this one. LET’S. RIDE.
Broncos
QB
This has all the makings of rabbits entering a lion’s den. Russell Wilson has spent the last decade with this Seahawks coaching staff and practicing against this defense more than any other quarterback on Earth. He’ll come in with a killer instinct against a defense still in its infancy under first-year DC Clint Hurtt (previously their DL coach since 2017). Recall Tom Brady’s first games back from deflategate playing mad and lock Russ in with confidence.
TE
Albert Okwuegbunam was among the tight ends who hurt their stock the most from preseason, but it’s worth acknowledging that the “he needs more reps” comments from Nathaniel Hackett could also have just been motivational coach-speak. Either way, he’ll have a decent matchup against LB Cody Barton and with Tim Patrick on IR, he’ll have every opportunity to earn a healthy target share in Russ’s kitchen.
