The All-Star break is an opportune time for managers to evaluate the performance of their players. It should be a moment of reflection on your preseason choices. For some, it can be a joyous time of patting yourself on the back and saying “see, look at me go!”.
Or if you are the managers that own any of the players on this list, it can be a moment of “what the hell was I thinking? I’m never drafting this guy, ever again!” Often the same reaction I had in college when I woke up the next day and I realized I actually drove somewhere.
Never again.
So who are the players that are driving managers crazy? Our fantasy baseball staff each submitted their “All-Dud” team. Our contributors selected a player at each position (including a designated hitter).
So who has disappointed the most?
Catcher
Doug Reid (Follow: @Doug_Reid34) – Bo Naylor – He had a strong finish to 2023 and was a starting catcher heading into the season, but has struggled at the plate so far.
Jeff Clowers (@EthosJeff) – Sean Murphy – Catchers are notoriously volatile, so it’s hard to feel too badly burned when one pumpkins. You wouldn’t have expected Murphy to be the biggest one of the bunch though, playing for a smart team in a strong lineup, but a combination of injuries to himself and the lineup around him have hitting just .222 at this point in the season. Sure, he’s managed to connect on five longballs but his average EV has dipped significantly, down to just 87 MPH after a 91.5 MPH mark (84th percentile) last year.
Larry Vannozzi (@LarryV86) – Bo Naylor – Many managers waited to draft a catcher until late, and some of them went with Bo Naylor based on speed/power projections. Instead, they have ended up with 5 HRs and 2 SBs along with a pitiful .200 average.
