How’d We Get Here?
The Warriors had their dynasty ended by the Raptors and some bad luck. Kevin Durant left and Klay Thompson wasn’t expected to play, putting all the pressure on Steph Curry, Draymond Green and the newly acquired D’Angelo Russell. The fact that D’Lo was just acquired to trade later was the worst-kept secret in the league. While he was able to post big numbers for a husk of a roster, the Warriors quickly moved his bloated contract to Minnesota for Andrew Wiggins’ equally bloated deal. At least Wiggins might be a long-term fit. Oh, also Curry got hurt right away and played just five games.
It was expected to be a season where the outcome was uncertain, which has been a rarity in Golden State these days, but it went off the rails and was worse than anyone could’ve imagined. While the Warriors still have an elite core and a new lottery pick, they will once again be without Thompson after another brutal injury. The front office acted quickly to acquire Kelly Oubre, as they know that no more years of Curry’s prime can be wasted.
