LeBron JamesSF, Los Angeles LakersAdrian Wojnarowski and Zach Lowe have learned that every player is invited to an 8:00 PM Eastern meeting inside the bubble to discuss the next steps after Wednesday's boycott.
The six teams scheduled to play all decided not to do so in the wake of Jacob Blake, an unarmed Black man, being shot by police in Kenosha, Wisconsin. The NBA postponed the games but make no mistake — the players' collective action spurred this on. We'll see what the players decide on. Woj added that players were already growing weary of the bubble environment, and that emotions are especially raw as frustrations mount about the state of the country in the aftermath of yet another instance of police brutality. While there was some discussion about sitting out the season resumption so as not to take focus off the nation's real issues, ultimately it was decided that the league could use the bubble as a platform to spread its message and push for racial justice and equality. While the message is out there, it clearly didn't work in terms of spurring tangible, meaningful, necessary change. Several reports had said that the season is in jeopardy.
