• How’d We Get Here?

The Lakers finally got Anthony Davis and then didn’t get Kawhi Leonard, forcing them to hit the bargain bin to fill out the rest of their roster with players that would fit around their star duo. It wasn’t perfect but the Lakers cruised to the top seed in the West. They then cruised through the Western Conference playoffs before taking care of business and bringing home championship No. 17. It turns out that having two top-10 players is good.

To top it off, the Lakers went out and got better over the offseason. Dennis Schroder, Montrezl Harrell and Marc Gasol present massive upgrades in areas that the Lakers had problems with last season. It’s hard to add impact players like that when you’re sporting some massive salaries, but the lure of a championship ring plus some timely deal-making has the Lakers sporting an improved roster. Somehow.
