As they say in horse racing: “…and down the stretch they come!”
The calendar has reached March and the fantasy basketball playoffs are either here for deeper leagues or right around the corner for 10- and 12-team leagues. There are plenty of gems waiting for you on the waiver wire, so let’s go shopping for potential league winners.
Double-Check Zone
These are players who are highly likely to be gone — maybe even drafted — in any competitive league. And yet, their roster percentage is well below 100 on Yahoo, meaning you need to take the 20 seconds and make sure that these guys are not floating around anywhere.
Zach Collins (34%)
Nikola Vucevic has missed so many games with this calf injury that he is now INJ eligible in Yahoo leagues. Zach Collins has taken over the center position in Chicago and absolutely dominated to the point that there will be nothing for Jalen Smith can say or do about it.
Collins opened eyes with 19-5-1-1-1 in a blowout win over the Sixers and then took flight with 21-17-7-0-2-2 in a close home loss to the Clippers. He had another fine line on Friday with 15-13-5-1-1 in a win over the Raptors. Over the last week, he’s been good for 17-12-5-0-1-1!! I can’t remember ever seeing Collins play better than this.
Billy Donovan is officially the Collins whisperer so ride this tidal wave until Vooch returns. And here’s a thought…is it crazy to think that Collins starts at the four when Vooch gets his starting center job back? Collins is playing better right now than either Patrick Williams or Matas Buzelis have all season. There may be staying power here even after Vooch comes back.
Bol Bol (34%)
Bol was a rock star for three games and the fantasy world gravitated to him like a moth to a light. Then, coach Mike Budenholzer pump faked everyone–including Bol–by playing him just 30 minutes over a three game stretch, and most managers sent him back to waivers.
Well, Coach Bud came to his senses. Bol is back in the starting five and rolling, with a PRA of 18-7-2, 2.8 threes and 1.5 blocks over the last four games. I believe it is finally safe to bellow to the fantasy basketball world that it is: BOL BOL SEASON!!!
Shaedon Sharpe (46%)
Welcome back to the good graces in these fantasy spaces, Shaedon. After detonating in the Blazers win at Washington last Wednesday with a line of 36-8-5-1-1-3–and a dunk of the year candidate–Sharpe has back that up with three more strong games. He is averaging a PRA of 25-7-4 with 1.3 stocks and 2.3 threes over the last four games.
I was anesthetized by Sharpe’s stat lines as a bench player, but now that Jerami Grant is on the shelf (again), Sharpe is starting and filling that void with lots of goodies.
Donte DiVincenzo (67%)
Donte returned to the Wolves’ lineup on Thursday against the Lakers after missing 19 games with a toe injury and he has picked up right where he left off. In three games since his return, Donte is 6th in Yahoo leagues with a PRA of 15-5-4 to go with 2.7 steals and 5.0 threes per game!
It won’t be long before Donte is re-inserted into the starting lineup. He is averaging a PRA of 15-4-4 with 3.4 threes and 1.2 steals in eight starts this season. Your team needs Donte’s combination of 2.6 threes and 1.2 steals so double check your waiver wire.
Jonas Valanciunas (81%)
Domantas Sabonis suffered a hamstring injury one minute into Saturday’s game and his Lithuanian brother stepped up with a line of 15-14-1-3-4. Domas is going to miss at least a week and we don’t know how long he will sit out, so it is time to add the walking double-double named Jonas.
Brandon Podziemski (68%)
BP is back in the starting lineup and ballin out for Coach Kerr, averaging 13-7-3 with 1.5 stocks and 1.8 threes over the past two weeks. We all love Poj because of the goodies he provides so double check your waiver wire for “The Kid Who Benched Klay”.
