• We’ve got some timely waiver wire targets today! Looking ahead to the Rockies home schedule can pay dividends and that’s exactly what we’ll do in this Friday edition of Working the Waiver Wire.

The Rockies start their first homestand today with the first of three games against the Phillies. After that series, the Rockies host the Astros Monday through Wednesday next week. Woohoo! Get those Phillies, Astros and Rockies waiver claims ready!

    * Note: Although all listed roster percentages are from Yahoo, at the time of the writing of this article, most of our waiver wire recommendations are widely available across all major platforms. *

    J. T. Realmuto – C – Phillies – 22% Rostered

Realmuto homered during his most recent game on Wednesday and now heads to Coors Field for a weekend series against Rockies pitching. Yes, please!

I realize that the current version of J.T. isn’t the same as the one from a few years ago when he was one of MLB’s best hitting catchers. However, check out his awesome career triple slash line at Coors: .363/.598/1.007. Wow! In 24 games, he hit three homers and drove in 15 runs.

Realmuto should already be rostered in deep leagues but he is easily available in typical 12-teamers. At the very least, he is worth streaming this weekend as he and the Phillies should feast on weak Rockies pitching at Coors. And who knows, you just might keep him a tad longer because the Phillies travel to San Francisco after playing the Rockies. Oracle Park isn’t known to be overly friendly to hitters but Realmuto has a career .317/.538/.905 slash line there across 26 games.

    Cam Smith – OF – Astros – 5% Rostered

Did you get bored with Cam Smith after he broke into the big leagues as a 22-year-old last year but proceeded to limp to a .236 batting average? Yeah, probably so. Is Cam Smith going to be a post-hype star? Beats me, but I’ll tell you one thing – he is worth picking up right now because the Astros play in Sacramento this weekend and then have a three-game trip to Coors Monday through Wednesday.

Smith may be heating up at just the right time. He went 4-for-10 with a homer and a steal earlier this week against the Red Sox. This weekend, he’ll play the A’s at their Triple-A ballpark where he batted .363 last year with two homers and three RBI in seven games. The A’s are starting Jeffrey Springs, Luis Morales and Jacob Lopez, none of which are particularly impressive. It should be a good weekend for Smith.

The news is even better early next week because the Astros play at Coors Field Monday through Wednesday. Smith played just three games in Denver last year but it’s worth noting that he went ballistic (8-for-15 with a double, triple and five RBI!).

If you’re ever going to roster Cam Smith, right now is the time to do it. His next six games are against two bottom-feeder pitching staffs in two of the best stadiums for hitters. Batter up!
