Without burying the lede, there is an element of “well, obviously” about the title, but I promise, there’s more to it than meets the eye. Of course, every fantasy owner of Ohtani will value him very highly; after all, he is one of the best players in baseball, but many may not realize his potential value over the next seven weeks.

The batting average over .300, 34 home runs, 32 stolen bases and an OPS over 1.000 put him amongst the best in baseball in all of those categories, garnering him some consideration to become the first DH-only MVP in baseball history. He’s third in total points in Yahoo and ESPN leagues, and is on pace for his best offensive season of his career, potentially due to his singular focus on hitting.
