Welcome to Sunday Night Pickups: Fantasy Basketball Adds for 12/8! A busy Sunday for once, with two-thirds of the league active. Joel Embiid returns a day after fantasy managers lose Franz Wagner for weeks and the same day Evan Mobley twists his ankle (raise your hand if you have all 3 like me), which will all send reverberations through their teams’ lineups. Let’s walk through the games and see what kind of value we can find.
Standard Leagues
(<50% rostered on Yahoo)
Ayo Dosunmu, SG/SF, CHI (39% rostered, Yahoo)
Tonight: 35 minutes, 10 points (3-6 FG, 2-4 3PT, 2-2 FT), five assists, three rebounds
Analysis: Dosunmu has started nine straight games since Patrick Williams injured his foot and has been a top 50 fantasy player over the past month. He had his first ever triple double two games ago and has really amped up his assists this season. He has dished out five or more assists in seven of his nine starts and has scored in double figures in eight of the nine, but has not seen an uptick in turnovers even though his usage rate is up. The Bulls have every reason to be cautious with Williams when he is recovered from his injury, due to his extensive injury history, so Dosunmu should get plenty of run with the starting five.
Vasilije Micic, PG/SG, CHA (16% rostered)
Tonight: 34 minutes, 18 points (6-15 FG, 4-6 3PT), nine assists, two steals, two rebounds
Analysis: Look, this is an injury play for now. LaMelo Ball and Tre Mann are both out for at least ten-to-fourteen more days and Micic has been handed the keys to the Hornets Mazda Miata. He’s started six games in a row, with five or more assists in five of the starts, multiple three pointers made in four of the starts and double figures in scoring in four. He won’t get to the line often, is a rotating door defensively, but plays the part of a pure point guard. If you need threes, points and assists because you lost Ball or you drafted point guards poorly, go grab Micic for at least the next two weeks.
De’Andre Hunter, SF/PF, ATL (37% rostered)
Tonight: 24, 20 points (7-20 FG, 3-9 3 PT, 3-3 FT), three rebounds, one assist
