The waiver wire might feel a bit thin this time of year, but we’ve got some solid options that can boost your teams for the final stretch.

Keider Montero – SP – DET – 6% Yahoo, 20% Fantrax

Keider Montero delivered an outstanding performance Tuesday, tossing a complete game shutout against the Rockies. He allowed just three hits, struck out five, and did not issue a walk in the Tigers’ dominant 11-0 victory. While this was an undeniably impressive showing, it’s important to keep Montero’s overall season in perspective. He still holds a 4.88 ERA and a 1.28 WHIP, which suggests this outing may be more of an outlier than a breakthrough.

Montero’s slider and curveball were especially effective in generating swings and misses, but it’s wise to approach with caution before rushing to add him in fantasy leagues. His underlying metrics don’t indicate a dramatic shift in performance, despite the brilliant shutout. While this game might make Montero an intriguing speculative add in deeper leagues or for managers in need of streamers for favorable matchups, it’s too early to label him a “must-add” for the stretch run. For now, keep an eye on Montero, but temper expectations unless he can build on this.
