I don’t have much to add in terms of an introduction. Let’s jump right into the top pickups.
- Double-Check Zone: Players who should be on a 12-team roster, but whose roster percentages suggest you need to make sure they’re not on your wire.
- Standard Leagues: Players worth an add in standard leagues with a potential path to value over a decent stretch of time (or the season).
- Streamers, Maybe More: Players on a hot streak or a path to short-term value with a smaller chance of long-term upside if certain things break their way.
- Watch-List: Players who may not quite be surefire adds yet, but those who should be monitored in case they trend up.
- Deep Leagues: Lower-rostered players who should be available in 14-team or 16-team leagues and beyond.
- Weekend Watch: A quick look at teams with strong weekend schedules if you’re planning on some very short-term pickups.
Double-Check Zone
Most of these players will be rostered in competitive leagues, but we get just enough questions about them to warrant another call-out. These are your priority adds and if anyone on this list is still available, thank your lucky stars.
Derik Queen (46%)
Key Note(s): Starting and has had some huge pop gamesI would be shocked if Queen is available in a competitive league, but you never know. Maybe the one impatient manager dropped him because Yves Missi has outplayed him over the past two games. Queen is fun, but he does have deficiencies. Maybe those deficiencies do limit him in the long run, but now isn’t the time to be moving on.
Keegan Murray (44%)
Key Note(s): He is being talked up by the Kings & is getting the usage to back it upThe positive chatter is encouraging. Not to mention the 19 points with three triples and then the 26 points with three triples (and more) in his second and third game back. Maybe Murray is breaking out this season. You want to have him on your roster to find out.
He also did it again on Wednesday!Toumani Camara (43%)
Key Note(s): His 3PT% (.319) and his 1.1 SPG have room to riseCamara has a solid baseline but his ceiling is undoubtedly higher than what he has shown so far. He won’t be as “fun” to some managers because he doesn’t have the scoring pop, but there is a place for the guy who guys you 3-and-D stats, a handful of rebounds and occasional assists. You aren’t just trying to win points alone, are you? No, you aren’t!
Reed Sheppard (42%)
Key Note(s): Minutes and role have trended up with a fantasy-friendly stat profileSheppard moved into the starting lineup without Kevin Durant (personal) on Monday, but Sheppard’s minutes and role had been on the up already. I think I stated earlier in the season that around 26 MPG should be the sweet spot for standard formats. Well, he is averaging 27.6 MPG in the past six games (prior to Wednesday), which has equated to top-40 9-cat value per game; albeit, with a few areas that could settle a bit. At top-40 however, he has a decent margin to slow down and still be good.
He had a nice showing on Wednesday as well.Grayson Allen (38%)
Key Note(s): He might have rest-of-season valueRemember, Allen stuck in the starting lineup with both Jalen Green and Dillon Brooks. The sample size was brief, but it exists. Allen would likely slow down his usage when the Suns are healthier, but if the role is still large, he can likely maintain 12-team value. Even while injured, he should be on a roster.
Jaden Ivey (36%)
Key Note(s): Young players can take leaps (although it isn’t guaranteed)I don’t feel strongly about Ivey, but maybe all the time off allowed him to work on his shot and level up his game a bit more. I haven’t watched him so far this season outside of the box score, but I would want to see if he shows any improvement once he is fully up to speed and (presumably?) starting again. There is a chance he sticks in a sixth-man role, which I don’t think is ideal for his statistical profile. He needs big minutes and good usage.
Neemias Queta (33%)
Key Note(s): The other bigs aren’t really goodI think Queta has outplayed the competition so far. He is adequate, which is better than Luka Garza, Xavier Tillman and what remains of Chris Boucher. Despite the minor injury, Queta should be a on 12-team roster for “adequate” big-man stats.
Update: On Wednesday, the Celtics used Luka Garza for 11 minutes as the starter, rookie Amari Williams for 15 minutes and went small in the remaining center minutes. Chris Boucher and Xavier Tillman were DNP-CDs. Queta has no competition. None. He isn’t a 30-minute big himself, but he should be able to get enough minutes to be a low-end 12-teamer the rest of the way. Hold Queta through the ankle sprain.
Kevin Porter Jr. (32%)
Key Note(s): Assigned to the G League on WednesdayI have massive amounts of belief in Ryan Rollins, but you have to roster Porter to assess the situation. Maybe they can co-exist. Maybe Doc Rivers dismisses Rollins (I do not think that is likely) or maybe KPJ has a strong sixth-man role where he thrives. Roster him and think about it later.
Daniel Gafford (22%)
Key Note(s): Is this roster percentage real?Dereck Lively II might be out for a while again. I don’t think Gafford is fully healthy as his ankle has seemed to be bothering him all season since he suited up, but it isn’t bad enough to hold him out. The big-man stats should at least be adequate.
Honorable Mention(s): Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Donte DiVincenzo, Quentin Grimes, Jerami Grant, Cedric Coward, De’Andre Hunter, Andre Drummond, Collin Gillespie, Ryan Kalkbrenner are all players who should be on a roster
Standard Leagues
These players are either approaching 12-team value or have already seized it but every fantasy league may not have caught on to that yet. They may not be guaranteed to hold ROS value but they are worth a look nonetheless as it may be a possibility, or there may at least be some medium-to-long-term appeal.
