It was a weird night for fantasy as the Knicks and Spurs didn’t mean a thing in the vast majority of fantasy formats. While we didn’t reap the benefits of another great game, it was in fact a great game. The Spurs were riding high after knocking off the Thunder but couldn’t get over the hump; Victor Wembanyama was still limited and had some rough moments sprinkled into an otherwise strong effort, while Jalen Brunson and OG Anunoby made enough shots and Mitchell Robinson generated enough extra possessions to get the job done.
The Knicks took home the NBA Cup and Brunson was named MVP of the tournament, and while you can quibble with the spaced-out schedule and flaky incentive (from a fan perspective — it’s hard to say that the players each earning a little more money makes things interesting for the viewing public), there’s no denying that the most meaningful games of the tournament were a great sample of the product. The league has something here.
The Cup’s impact will be felt for the next few days as the schedule gets back into its normal rhythm, which we’ll see with Wednesday’s slate.
Top Pickups
This is the “general must-add” section regardless of the slate. If these players are being overlooked and remain chilling on the waiver wire, consider adding them to your squad.
Dylan Harper (23%)
Harper was a standout in a losing effort, collecting 21 points (7-of-14 FG, 2-of-2 FT), seven rebounds and five 3-pointers in 28 minutes off the bench. He was strong on his drives and played some good defense, even if it didn’t show up in the box score. The Spurs are finally healthy and look pretty scary even without having a ton of time to coalesce. Harper flashes increasing poise with each passing game and while tonight’s line was shaded by a hot shooting night, the skills and role are going to give him legitimate 12-team appeal.
Mitchell Robinson (7%)
