• The NBA graced us with just a single game last night, and unfortunately it wasn’t particularly meaningful. The Clippers were without Kawhi Leonard (ankle) and James Harden (personal), so what you got in the Clippers box score isn’t very actionable. Kris Dunn started and had six assists, a steal and a 3-pointer in 24 serviceable minutes; Bradley Beal returned from his back injury and had five points on 2-of-14 shooting in 20 minutes. The most notable thing about LA’s game last night is that John Collins had 13 points, four rebounds, a steal, a block and two 3-pointers in 24 minutes off the bench. It’s not bad, but you’re hoping for more with Leonard out as Collins’ rocky start continues.

On the Suns side, this one was all about Jalen Green making his team debut after missing a few weeks with a hamstring strain. He hit the ground running, dropping 29 points on .500 shooting with two steals and six 3-pointers. A very strong start and while Green isn’t a complete fantasy player, this setup looks like his best yet. A career year and a certified top-100 season isn’t out of line.

Friday brings us the resumption of the NBA Cup, and we will once again see which teams are taking it seriously. The big game to watch there is the one you might least expect: Toronto vs. Atlanta. Both teams are 1-0 and have solid plus point differentials, so tonight’s game could go a long way toward deciding Group A in the East. The Raptors are riding high on a three-game win streak and return to Atlanta, where they steamrolled the Hawks on opening night. The Hawks are piecing things together without Trae Young and should be eager to avenge that embarrassing loss. Should be a good one.

    Top Pickups

This is the “general must-add” section regardless of the slate. If these players are being overlooked and remain chilling on the waiver wire, consider adding them to your squad.

    Royce O’Neale

Even with the return of Green, the Suns decided to keep Royce O’Neale and Grayson Allen in the starting lineup, instead demoting Ryan Dunn (who had a nice game off the bench anyway). We imagine that O’Neale or Allen will move to the bench once Dillon Brooks (abdomen) returns — and that Allen is widely rostered enough to avoid inclusion here since we’ve been banging the drum for over a week — but until that happens, O’Neale remains a no-nonsense option for 3-and-D numbers with some extra rebounds along the way. Last night he had 17 points, four rebounds, two assists and five 3-pointers. That’s a good way to make up for no steals or blocks.
