The 2024 Dallas Cowboys had their worst season of the post-Covid era. They finished 7-10 and sat in third place in the NFC East. It was a setback in every way for the franchise last season. Quarterback Dak Prescott was done for the season after eight games after compiling 11 touchdowns, 8 interceptions, and leading the team to a tough 3-5 record. It would get worse from there, as backup Cooper Rush would struggle the rest of the way and tensions grew in the offense. Each week, visible frustration from wide receiver CeeDee Lamb was highlighted on broadcasts around the country.
Coming into 2025, plenty of big changes were made. Head coach Mike McCarthy was replaced by first-year HC Brian Schottenheimer. Lead running back and 1,000-yard rusher Rico Dowdle departed for the Carolina Panthers on a one-year deal, forcing the team to pick up Miles Sanders and Javonte Williams on one-year deals of their own. They lost many players from last year’s team, including Rush, wide receiver Brandin Cooks, defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence, cornerback Jourdan Lewis, and linebacker Eric Kendricks. Their biggest move of the offseason came from a trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers for star wide receiver George Pickens.
While talented, Pickens was described as a “headcase” during his time with the Steelers. Pittsburgh admitted they were tired of his antics on the field and Dallas needed an exceptional wide receiver to pair with Lamb. The trio of Prescott, Lamb, and Pickens should explode both on the field and in fantasy this year. Pickens amassed over 2,800 receiving yards in the first three seasons, but finished as WR39 in 2022, WR30 in 2023 and WR42 last season in Pittsburgh because of inconsistent QB play. In his new home, he should excel with Prescott throwing the ball.
