In our Week 1 QB rankings, we’re rolling with the top guys from draft season in a very similar order to how they were drafted. There are a couple of matchups I like based on projected bad defenses, but a lot remains static from draft season. In Week 1, you start your stars and adjust for future week.
Rank Player Team Opponent Notes 1 Josh Allen BUF BAL Safest QB in the league and my QB1 this season 2 Lamar Jackson BAL BUF Electric primetime Week 1 game should flip lots of matchups 3 Jalen Hurts PHI DAL Tush push not outlawed, Dallas defense is Swiss cheese 4 Jayden Daniels WAS NYG The last of the Big 4 fantasy QBs, Daniels will have to contend with the Giants pass rush, but should crush 5 Joe Burrow CIN CLE Is this a tough matchup? It could be, but the Browns have ghastly well within their range of outcomes 6 Baker Mayfield TB ATL High-scoring matchup should have Mayfield sligning it 7 Patrick Mahomes KC LAC Brazil games sketch me out, but Mahomes is still a no brainer 8 Bo Nix DEN TEN Not sure how to read TEN as a matchup, but Nix still has big upside 9 Trevor Lawrence JAC CAR Best streamer of the week in a motivating debut game for Liam Coen 10 Kyler Murray ARI NO Saints are the worst team in the league this year, for me, and Murray is fantasy friendly in most cases 11 Brock Purdy SF SEA Love Purdy this year, but the SEA road matchup could be sneaky tough 12 Drake Maye NE LVR Should be an easy enough Week 1, but there’s so much uncertainty on both sides here 13 Dak Prescott DAL PHI Very high on Dak this year, and they are going to be chasing this game all night 14 Jared Goff DET GB Huge game that is hard to pick a side on, but there should be a lot of points 15 Jordan Love GB DET I need to see a week of this GB pass-catching group to feel good about it 16 Justin Herbert LAC KC I would stay away from Herbert in Brazil, but he’s still a solid bet to score a good amount 17 Caleb Williams CHI MIN I’d wait a week until Williams gets his feet under him and doesn’t face Brian Flores 18 C.J. Stroud HOU LAR There will be weeks to start Stroud, but this isn’t one 19 Justin Fields NYJ PIT Fields wasn’t the worst pick in fantasy this year, but rolling him out against his former team in the week’s lowest total feels disgusting. 20 Bryce Young CAR JAC Young is probably a great streamer this week if you can talk yourself into starting Bryce Young in Week 1 21 J.J. McCarthy MIN CHI McCarthy’s range of outcomes are extremely wide for his first NFL start, and it feels too risky to me 22 Michael Penix ATL TB I like the scoring in this game to help Penix as a streamer, but his OL situation worries me greatly 23 Tua Tagovailoa MIA IND I don’t trust either QB in this matchup, but I think it’ll yield a good amount of points for at least one of them 24 Daniel Jones IND MIA If I was braver, I’d say Jones is a valuable Week 1 streamer, but I can’t talk myself into Jones with a straight face 25 Matthew Stafford LAR HOU This game looks like it’ll be low scoring in a good way, as opposed to Steelers-Jets. Stay away from Stafford until you see him play. 26 Geno Smith LVR NE I like Smith this year as a consistent QB2. I just do not have a good read on either team in this game yet. 27 Joe Flacco CLE CIN Good matchup for Flacco, but want to see him play with these weapons first 28 Sam Darnold SEA SF The Seahawks will be run heavy this year, meaning Darnold will be difficult to trust even in good matchups 29 Cam Ward TEN DEN I have faith in Ward, but I wouldn’t want to start him in his debut against Denver 30 Russell Wilson NYG WAS It’s a pleasure to still have Wilson around, but I need to see him play before I consider him a viable streamer 31 Aaron Rodgers PIT NYJ Awful game to stream him in, no thank you 32 Spencer Rattler NO ARI Last by default, but if he looks surprisingly effective, could rise in future good matchups because of his quietly solid weapons
