Hi Reliever Rats,

We have a lot to review this week in the Bullpen Call! There are some new saves targets available in standard leagues, so make sure to double check that wire if you’re in need of RP support. Potential RP Adds 

Nick Pivetta (RP, Red Sox)

Pivetta has been following openers for the Red Sox out of the bullpen, and he’s giving you starter innings per outing. He went 6 shoutout on Monday with 13 Ks and gave up 0 hits, earning the win. His role can correlate with wins out of the bullpen. Pivetta has had an insane last 30 days, nailing 38 Ks in 21.2 innings with a 2.08 ERA and 0.65 WHIP. I do think some regression is coming, as his overall line is at a 4.44 ERA and 1.21 WHIP. Pivetta’s K rate is the most attractive part of his potential add to your roster, as he has 94 in 75 innings. His K%, Curve Spin, an Extension rank in the top 15% for pitchers on Statcast. There are some spots to be wary about Pivetta, as his BB%, hard hit %, Barrel %, and average Exit Velocity are in the 22nd percentile on Statcast for pitchers. He’s a great option to ride this hot stretch for additional Ks and win upside. If his ratio improvement over the last month sticks, he’ll have rest of season value.

Trevor Richards (RP, Blue Jays)

Richards’s underlying metrics point to major upside in the 2nd half of the 2023 fantasy season. Richards has a 2.96era, and a 1.13 whip. His Statcast points to some bad luck, as his xBA, K%, Chase Rate, xERA/xwOBA and Whiff % are in the 10th percentile for arms — his xERA is 2.89. He does have some issues giving up walks and with hitters finding barrels (BB% and Barrel% in the 30th percentile). However, his hard hit% is in the 82nd percentile, so he’s limiting hard contact, but finding some barrels when hitters connect. Richards may have SP/RP designations in your league, and he can be valuable to slot in an SP slot daily in order for ancillary Ks, ratio support, and potential wins.
