• As the calendar turns to September, it marks the home stretch of the fantasy baseball season. Today we look at a couple of hitters and an Oriole pitcher who were really good in August.

MJ Melendez, C, OF, Royals (20% rostered on CBS, 31% rostered on Yahoo)

After getting off to a terrible start and struggling for the first four months of the season, Melendez has figured it out in August. He hit .150 in April, .164 in May, .203 in June and .235 in July before breaking out in August, hitting .300 (21-for-70). During August he hit five of his 17 homers in 2024 and had 15 of his 43 RBIs. He is on the strong side of a platoon in a good Royals lineup, and with catcher eligibility in most leagues, he is a good pickup for this week. The left-handed hitter should be in the lineup all week as the Royals are scheduled to face all right-handed starters over the next week.

League size recommendation: 12-team leagues, five-outfield leagues or two catcher leagues
