After a mundane season in sunny north Florida, the Jaguars are looking to add some spark to this team with newly acquired head coach Liam Coen and what they are hoping is a revamped offense. The highlight of the off-season so far was the big trade up to number two where the team selected the 2024 Heisman winner WR/DB Travis Hunter. Adding another weapon was important, because if the Jags weren’t throwing the ball to Brian Thomas Jr, then whatever else they tried likely wasn’t effective. Much like their division mates, it’s tough to take a lot from last year to try and equate it to this season since there’s such a vast change in offensive talent, players and coaches alike.
Player most likely to beat ADP: TE Brenton Strange (ADP 173, TE24)
The former second round pick finds himself atop the depth chart after the Jaguars let Evan Engram go earlier this offseason. While there haven’t been too many productive fantasy games, Strange (TE31) spiked in week 15 with 12 targets and a TE4 finish. Newly acquired head coach Liam Coen brings an explosive, up tempo offense, and there is a world where Strange finishes second on this team in targets and/or hits double digit touchdowns. We love to see both of those in the range of outcomes for late round tight ends. Although Lawrence hasn’t thrown for more than 25 touchdowns in a season, Baker Mayfield threw for 41 and 28 in his two seasons with Coen running the offense. It wouldn’t shock me to see Lawrence surpass 30 this season, and without a ton of pass catching weapons, Strange sets up nicely to be an integral part of this offense.
