• In this piece, I will be discussing some batters who intrigue me on the free agent market that are owned in less than 50% of 15-team leagues in The Great Fantasy Baseball Invitational (TGFBI). If you are in a 12-team league or just a home fantasy baseball league, these might be players to keep an eye on, but not necessarily add right now. In addition, I will suggest bid ranges for these players based on the projected impact that I see them bringing to your team.

I’ll be bending my own rules to talk about a huge call-up coming on Monday, but also touching on players who may have growing roles on their respective teams to help out your fantasy squad!

James Wood, WSH OF (65% owned in TGFBI)

Wood, 21, is owned in over 50% of TGFBI leagues, but I still had to discuss one of the most impactful call-ups of the season thus far. The Nationals are expected to bring up Wood, one of the prized returns from the Juan Soto trade with San Diego, to make his major league debut on Monday. In 52 games in Triple-A this season, Wood has hit .353 with ten home runs and ten steals, good for a 1.058 OPS and a 173 wRC+. Wood oozes power potential and the stolen bases are certainly enticing as well, but the big thing to keep an eye on will be his strikeouts. Last year, in Double-A, Wood struck out at a 34% rate, but has cut that all the way down to 18% this year while moving up a level. If Wood can keep his strikeouts in check, the sky’s the limit for his fantasy value.

Verdict: If Wood is available, he will have managers throwing at least 20% of their yearly budget at him. ($200+)
