Fantasy Football 2025 Week 1 Recap & Predictions | Mostradamus Review

  • Every week I will do a quick drive thru of the all the games and cover the relevant fantasy points.  I will look at things that might be fluky or here to stay and try and point everyone in the right direction for the future.  We never want to overreact to a small-sample size, but sometimes getting in too early is still better than missing the boat entirely.

    Eagles 24 – Cowboys 20

The first game of the season started off as a banger, but a lightning delay took the wind out of both offenses and we only saw three points in the second half.  DAL looks primed to be a monster on offense and Javonte Williams had two TDs, so make sure he isn’t on the wire.  He should be the RB1 until Jaydon Blue gets ramped up and Miles Sanders had a costly fumble.  Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb might be the best stack in fantasy this season and while they didn’t connect for a TD, it is coming.  George Pickens will be fine after only seeing four targets, but the PHI defense is among the best in the league.  For Philly, Jalen Hurts was the only notable performer as Saquon Barkley as held in the check and two-headed receiving core of AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith did next to nothing.  If you are down a TE, make sure Dallas Goedert isn’t floating around as he led the team in targets with seven.  PHI should be better each and every game after this, but it was concerning that the offense wasn’t effective on the ground or through the air.

    Pickup of the game: None

    Chargers 27 – Chiefs 21

This was supposed to be a defensive battle, but instead both QBs aired it out.  Pat Mahomes looked great despite losing Xavier Worthy on the first series, but next man up and Hollywood Brown looked right at home leading the team with 16 targets.  No other KC player had more than five and the Travis Kelce resurgence might not be happening despite him scoring on 37 yard strike.  The lack of KC running game was concerning as Isiah Pacheco only 25 yards on a meager five carries and it was instead Mahomes who led the team in rushing with 57 yards.  Mahomes had three plays of 30+ yards and the explosive nature of the KC offense might be back.  He scored on the ground and through the air and with Worthy trending to play, all signs are pointing up for the pass-catchers.  LA was even more dominant as Herbert went for 318 yards and had three players with at least five grabs.  Quentin Johnston looks like he took another step forward as he had two TDs and could thrive playing next to Ladd McConkey.  McConkey was great as expected with 74 yards on six grabs, but it was the old stalwart Keenan Allen who led the team in receptions and found the end zone.  I don’t see him playing this well all season, but for now, he’s worthy of a flex play.  The running game wasn’t very effective as rookie sensation Omarion Hampton only had 48 yards, but saw 15 carries as Najee Harris only saw one.  Harris isn’t playable right now, but he’s worth a roster spot.  If LA is going to let it fly like this, Herbert is going to have a monster fantasy season, but it’s only Week 1.

Pickup of the game – WR Quentin Johnson – Priority Med

    Cardinals 20 – Saints 13

This was an ugly game as Kyler Murray was under the weather and had less than 165 passing yards.  He did run for 38 and hit Marvin Harrison Jr. for a TD, but AR almost rushed for as many yards as it passed.  Murray, James Connor ()39 rush yards) and Trey Benson (69 rush yards) were a three-headed attack that kept NO off-kilter all game.  MHJ and Trey McBride combined for 132 receiving yards, which meant no one else had more than 10.  It looks like Benson will have a big role in the offense this season and that isn’t great for Connor who has been the bell-cow in ARI.  McBride wasn’t able to score, but don’t expect the trend from last season to carry over.  Expect a big ARI offensively game next season.  Spencer Rattler was solid for NO, but he didn’t find the end zone despite passing for 214 yards and running for another 29.  He’s not a terrible QB in Super Flex leagues if you are in a jam and expect NO to be playing from behind all season.  Alvin Kamara was solid and scored, but I would look to trade him sooner rather than later.  Chris Olave looked great with seven grabs and 54 yards and should be the focal point of this offense as long as he can stay healthy.  it was Juwan Johnson who led the team in yards and receptions with eight and 76 and could be making the leap this season.

Pickup of the game – TE Juwan Johnson – Priority Med

    Colts 33 – Dolphins 8

This game as over almost as quickly as it began and IND rolled.  Daniel Jones looks like the fantasy steal of the season as he threw for one TD and ran for two more.  That kept Jonathan Taylor from finding the end zone, but he had nearly 100 all-purpose yards and will be the engine of this IND offense.  The receiving room is still crowded as Michela Pittman separated himself with six grabs and 80 yards, but it was rookie Tyler Warren who led the team with nine targets, hauling in seven of them for 76 yards.  He is a must-start TE going forward.  Josh Downs wasn’t heavily involved with only three targets and we have to hope that sorts itself out, but for now it’s clear this is a running offense that will funnel targets through Pittman and Warren.  As great as IND was, MIA was that much worse.  Tua Tagovailoa was awful with two INTs and a lost fumble and barely had more than 100 passing yards in a pass-heavy game-script.  Nobody looked great on MIA and this was predictable as I don’t have any Dolphins on any of my fantasy teams.  Ollie Gordon was a big sleeper, but he only had four rushing yards, but he is still a solid stash.  De’Von Achane is the only hope for this offense and he looked healthy as he scored despite only getting seven carries.  Hopefully this game is a one-off for MIA, but I wouldn’t be too sure.

Pickup of the game – QB Daniel Jones – Priority Med

    Raiders 20 – Patriots 13

The Raiders didn’t waste any time as Geno Smith was a monster with 363 passing yards, but only one TD.  Ashton Jeanty didn’t cover himself in glory in his first game, but he did find the end zone.  The problem is that Brock Bowers, who racked up 103 yards, hurt his knee and we are waiting to see how bad it is.  That will ruin my fantasy season.  So fingers crossed.  Jakobi Meyers didn’t look unhappy as he led the team in targets with 10 and receptions with 8.  He looks like one of the best fantasy values of the season through one week and Bowers misses time, who knows how high he will climb in the WR rankings.  Michael Mayer is a must-grab player if Bowers misses time as he is one of the best backup TEs in the NFL.  The Pats lost, but they looked solid as Drake Maye threw for 287 yards while only running for 11.  He had one TD and one INT and spread the ball around as three players had six receptions.  Kashon Boutte looks like the waiver wire grab of the season as he went off for 103 yards on six grabs.  Stefon Diggs had six grabs, but he will fade and rookie RB TreYveon Henderson also had six grabs, but only 24 receiving yards and only only 27 on the ground.

Pickup of the game – WR Kashon Boutte – Priority High

    Steelers 34 –  Jets 32

Anyone who thought this game was have 60+ points is probably lying, but Aaron Rodgers looked good in a semi-revenge game with four TDs.  He spread the ball around to Jonnu Smith, Jaylen Warren, Ben Skowronek and Calin Austin III and the only one who didn’t score was DK Metcalf who instead led the team with 83 receiving yards.  PIT didn’t really get the ground game going as Warren only had 37 yards on 11 carries, but it was Kenneth Gainwell who was the RB2 and out carried rookie Kaleb Johnson 7-1.  Johnson is probably a stash, but he might not be fantasy relevant this season.  The Jets living on the ground and the offense looks potent, finally.  Breece Hall had 107 yards on 19 carries, but it was Justin Fields who scored twice on the ground while also finding Garrett Wilson for a score through the air.  Fields is going to have an insane fantasy season at this rate and with Daniel Jones is among the fantasy steals of the season through one week.   Hall had 38 more yards through the air and might be a monster this season.  All the fear about Wilson taking a step back were also overblown as he had 95 yards on seven grabs.  The Jets finally look competent and could be a fantasy force this season as they did this against one of the best defenses in the league.

Pickup of the game – WR Calvin Austin III – Priority Low
