The second big slate of the season featured some massive performances. Luka Doncic and Victor Wembanyama were incredible, as expected, while Kyshawn George stole the show a little bit since he’s not exactly a known commodity to everyone out there. Giannis Antetokounmpo was a monster, going for 37 & 20 on 11-of-14 shooting — and the three misses were putback attempts that bounced off the rim. The Clippers bounced back and Kawhi Leonard and James Harden got back in the saddle. Kel’el Ware calmed everyone down with 19 & 9 in a return to the starting five after just 14 minutes on opening night. Domantas Sabonis returned. Lauri Markkanen was cooking on the other side of that matchup. Trey Murphy and Zion Williamson both had big games. Steph Curry was electric but the Blazers got eight guys into double digits and won their first game in the wake of Chauncey Billups’ arrest and impending dismissal.

It wasn’t all roses though. Amen Thompson was quiet in 37 minutes. Jalen Duren’s ugly start continued as he was tossed for a Flagrant 2 after just 12 minutes. Payton Pritchard was quiet again. The Grizzlies got smoked and nobody played much (at least they have an excuse). Herb Jones went scoreless after a solid opening night. There’s a lot going on… but not a lot to worry about yet. We’re literally four days into the season.

Kyshawn George

George is only rostered in 43% of Yahoo leagues. That’s lunacy. You could almost justify it after he went 4-of-8 at the charity stripe on opening night, but not after Friday. George went for 34 points, 11 rebounds, four assists, two steals, three blocks and seven 3-pointers on 11-of-15 shooting while hitting all five of his free throws. Sure, he’s 9-for-13 at the line on the season, but with the other numbers rolling like that, you find a way to make it work.
