It was a light Friday with a five-game slate featuring three blowouts, but the schedule was bookended by two OT games between legitimate title hopefuls.
The game of the night was undoubtedly the night cap, with Oklahoma City outlasting Denver in an overtime classic that had about everything you could want. The stars were all fantastic and emotions were high, with Nikola Jokic getting extremely heated after a cheap play from Lu Dort that got him ejected. Jokic double-doubled, Jamal Murray played sick and dropped 39 points and Chet Holmgren grabbed a career-high 21 rebounds.
The major story of the night, however, was the return of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. After missing the last nine games with an abdominal strain, the Thunder unceremoniously removed him from the injury report, and he stepped back into the mix like nothing had happened between now and his last appearance. SGA didn’t play in overtime but still saw 34 minutes, scoring 36 points to go with nine assists, two steals and two blocks. His shooting was a little off but that’s nitpicking — the reigning MVP is back.
Hopefully your fantasy team was able to withstand the last few weeks without Gilgeous-Alexander, because he looks ready to carry just in time for the fantasy playoffs.
Top Pickups
This is the “general must-add” section regardless of the slate. If these players are being overlooked and remain chilling on the waiver wire, consider adding them to your squad.
Brandon Williams (19%)
Williams started at PG again on Friday night and put up a sturdy 16 points, eight rebounds, four assists and two 3-pointers in 26 minutes. The shooting leaves a little to be desired at 5-of-14 from the field and 4-of-5 from the line, but Williams is a starting PG on a team with no guard depth. The clincher came after the final buzzer, however, as it was reported that the Mavs will waive Tyus Jones. That leaves Williams clearly alone as the last PG left besides Ryan Nembhard, who is still getting bounced back and forth to the G League on his two-way contract. Jones isn’t good anymore but considering the Mavs were giving him occasional starts, it’s good news for Williams. Add him if you need points, assists and triples.
Olivier-Maxence Prosper (10%)
