I love mock drafts. You love mock drafts. Everyone loves mock drafts, but not all mocks are the same. The mock you do at home with some friends and mostly strangers, where two people drop out and someone takes a kicker in the fifth round are mostly just for fun. They are great to get a feel for where some players are getting drafted or to test-drive a particular strategy or to know for when you have to reach for your preferred sleeper. This mock draft here is the mock of all mocks. We gathered the brightest minds and most savage fantasy players from across the Twitterverse and dropped them into a slow-draft, single QB, PPR mock for the ages.
The mock went pretty much as you would expect it to go until some of the GMs started to flex their fantasy muscles and we got the full gamut of fantasy strategies from 0RB, HeroRB, QB early (2nd round) and QB late (13th round). We even had one GM with a strategy after my own heart with double elite TE. If you want it, this mock has it so before any further ado, this is my own personal evaluation of how each round went.
Round 1
- Christian McCaffrey (@DMendy02)
- CeeDee Lamb (@FFChalupaBatman)
- Tyreek Hill (@AdamKoffler)
- Ja’Maar Chase (@DaveKluge)
- Justin Jefferson (@GMenJay)
- Breece Hall (@KellyInPhoenix)
- Bijan Robinson (@AintDunneYet)
- Amon-Ra St.Brown (@jlarkytweets)
- Garrett Wilson (@PopesFFH)
- Puka Nacua (@jonmosales)
- A.J Brown (@kvalenzuela17)
- Jahmyr Gibbs (@Daboys_22)
It’s hard to really get upset about any picks in the first round, but if I had to nitpick, I would be jumping for joy to get Bijan Robinson at seven while Garrett Wilson at nine seems a little early considering he was the WR26 last season. My mentality when assessing fantasy players is to play out the season 100 times and imagine what is the most likely scenario. In about 35 of those seasons, Aaron Rodgers stays healthy for 17 games and Wilson has well over 1500 yards and double-digit TDs. It’s just too much variance (the other 65 seasons) for me with my first round pick. For me, Puka Nacua was a no-brainer. Anytime a WR breaks the rookie playoff record for receiving yards in his first playoff game, I have to draft him next season. I don’t have a lot of fantasy rules, but that is one of them. Regardless, any and all of these players are primed to have monster seasons if only a few things break right.
Round 2
- Jonathan Taylor (@Daboys_22)
- Saquon Barkley (@kvalenzuela17)
- Marvin Harrison Jr. (@jonmosales)
- Davante Adams (@PopesFFH)
- De’Von Achane (@jlarkytweets)
- Brandon Aiyuk (@AintDunneYet)
- Derrick Henry (@KellyInPhoenix)
- DK Metcalf (@GMenJay)
- Drake London (@DaveKluge)
- Chris Olave (@AdamKoffler)
- Kyren Williams (@FFChalupaBatman)
- Josh Allen (@DMendy02)
It only took one round for people start playing favorites and go off the board. I have a personal Marvin Harrison Jr. “No matter what “philosophy this season and I was more than happy to follow it. Jacob is now riding shotgun as Brandon Aiyuk plays chicken with he Niners, which will be thrilling at the very least, but unless he is traded to the Bills, it’s probably a downgrade. De’Von Achane is probably the riskiest pick, but if he plays 15+ games, you’re probably locked to at least make the playoffs. So that’s a fun bet. This was the great WR with a questionable QB round as Davante Adams, DK Metcalf, Drake London and Chris Olave went off the board. It’s hard to not to simply bet on the talent and all four could and should be elite, but all four will probably have multiple people throw them the ball this season and the difference between Aiden O’Connell and Gardner Minshew is probably the difference between WR15 and WR5. It felt a little early for Allen, but can a team really lose when it has the definitive RB1/QB1. Nobody wants to play that team any week. Doesn’t really seem fair, does it? I love the Breece Hall/Derrick Henry picks. Now Kelly can just draft WRs the rest of the draft….right?
