With hot best ball summer 2025 coming to a close last week, I’ve transitioned from the degenerate drafter to the waiver wire wiz. Patrick Leary did a great job last year, bringing you names like Bucky Irving, Jauan Jennings, JK Dobbins, and more. Be sure to check out his weekly quarterback rankings throughout the year.
Rest assured, you’re in good hands here with me. I’ve been scouring the depths of hell in the late rounds of best ball drafts, meaning I have a lot of stuff to say about a lot of these undrafted players. If you want to get ahead of the curve on potential guys who could pop throughout the year, you can check out the late round fliers I wrote about in back in July here.
Its important to note, especially for the QB and TE position, that just because they are listed as a waiver pick up doesnt imply they are a “start” this week. Landing yourself in this article just means that I’m interested in seeing what else is in store for these players and worthy of a roster spot right now.
Note: I’ll be using players under 50% roster on Yahoo.
Another Note: I am an aggressive bidder in the early weeks of the season. I feel its the best time to maximize your budget as you can get players to impact more of the season. Week one can be a fluke, but it also gives us our first real insight as to how the coaching staff’s plan to use players in meaningful action.
Quarterbacks
Daniel Jones (8%) – Jones looked good in his debut with the Colts, and good on him. However, we can’t ignore that it came against a Dolphins team that is thin in the secondary and already looking like a bottom five team in the league this season. Still, completing 75% of your passes in the NFL is something worth getting excited about. The Colts have a bevy of weapons that Jones hasn’t had in his first six seasons. This could be who he is now, and in deeper leagues or 2QB leagues he’s now firmly on the radar. (FAAB: 0%)
Michael Penix, Jr. (33%) – Well I’ll be damned, guess who looked good week one? Thats right, the Penix led Atlanta Falcons did! I’ve been pushing this team, and this quarterback, all offseason in Twitter and throughout best ball season. He threw for nearly 300 yards and added some extra production on the ground, capped off by a touchdown. This helped propel him to QB10 on the week. In my opinion, we’re just getting started. (FAAB: 5-10%).
