Is the best feeling in the world when you start your first mock draft? I couldn’t believe how quickly the Yahoo room filled up, but it was almost as quick as people bailed once they made a few picks. Either way, this is isn’t a blueprint, it’s a location scout as we start to get a feel for how drafts are going to go, where we want to slate in the draft order and the positional scarcity that occurs as the draft gets deeper. I’m going to do a few hundred of these, but right away there were a couple themes that hit me in the head. WR is stacked. There wasn’t a pick in the first 12 rounds where I couldn’t have taken a WR. This was my overwhelming take from the jump. In my next mock I will try to go RB/RB or RB/TE in my first two picks and see if I can still get a stacked WR room. I remain convinced to try and get Brock Bowers or Trey McBride early and have a massive edge on the rest of the league at that position.
Round 1
- Round 1
(1) Raymond – Ja’Marr Chase (Cin – WR)
(2) Aiden – Saquon Barkley (Phi – RB)
(3) Ethan – Bijan Robinson (Atl – RB)
(4) Rooter07 – Justin Jefferson (Min – WR)
(5) Matt – CeeDee Lamb (Dal – WR)
(6) Rogelio – Derrick Henry (Bal – RB)
(7) Michael S – Jahmyr Gibbs (Det – RB)
(8) Team 8 – Nico Collins (Hou – WR)
(9) Daniel – Puka Nacua (LAR – WR)
(10) Sinjin – Christian McCaffrey (SF – RB)
(11) John – Bucky Irving (TB – RB)
(12) DAT DUDE – De’Von Achane (Mia – RB)
The first round is back! To me there is a first tier of players that is around eight players deep. I would exclude Puka Nacua from that just because I have serious concerns about his injury risk going forward. Getting Nico Collins at pick eight is Christmas in June. Chase is in a tier of his own, but I have Nico right there with JJ and Lamb and getting the end of that second tier is the goal in every fantasy draft. I took Nacua 14th in a 14-team league last season and he got hurt Week 1, so maybe I’m a little jaded. Same goes with CMC. I’d be happy with any spot from 1-8 and would be a little worried picking after that in the first round, but it’s still early. I would have taken Bucky Irving 9th if that was my pick.
Round 2
(1) DAT DUDE – Drake London (Atl – WR)
(2) John – Kyren Williams (LAR – RB)
(3) Sinjin – Amon-Ra St. Brown (Det – WR)
(4) Daniel – Ashton Jeanty (LV – RB)
(5) Team 8 – Jonathan Taylor (Ind – RB)
(6) Michael S – Josh Allen (Buf – QB)
(7) Rogelio – Breece Hall (NYJ – RB)
(8) Matt – Malik Nabers (NYG – WR)
(9) Rooter07 – Brian Thomas Jr. (Jax – WR)
(10) Ethan – Brock Bowers (LV – TE)
(11) Aiden – Josh Jacobs (GB – RB)
(12) Raymond – James Cook (Buf – RB)Being on the turn can be great if you can nail those two picks. Getting ARSB at 15 is unbelievable value and while his ceiling is WR3, his floor is WR6. Drake London is still getting better and if Michael Penix Jr. goes down, maybe Kirk Cousins is healthier after another year post-Achilles. I was pretty devastated that Jeanty went before me, but Jonathan Taylor has entered the underrated portion of his career. He missed three games and didn’t score a rushing TD in six straight, but he was the RB1 in two of three fantasy playoff weeks. I’m not taking Breece Hall that early, though I like him and Nabers/BTJ are all-world, but I don’t trust the QB situations. The pick I thought the most about was Bowers, but I needed a RB there and I’m happy with Taylor. I would like to find a way where Bowers or McBride could fall to me instead of reaching for them. I’m not taking Josh Allen anywhere close to this early and it wouldn’t shock me if the second round was a complete coin flip each draft.
