Kelly Oubre Jr.SF, Phoenix SunsKelly Oubre Jr. is back on the court, showing all of his athleticism, but his mental state means even more to him, and until his mindset is right about playing again his return is truly unknown.
“It’s a mental thing,” Oubre said after Tuesday’s practice. “I’m more 90% mental, 10% physical. I’m continuing to get stronger each and every day, but mentally, it’s a lot thrown at me in a short amount of time for me to get out there and resume high level of playing as everybody expects of me.” Oubre hasn’t played since February 24th, after averaging a career-high 18.7 points and 6.4 rebounds in his fifth NBA season out of Kansas. The Suns are six games out of the eighth and final playoff spot in the West held by the Grizzlies, with only eight “seeding” games to make a postseason push. And even though they would love to see Oubre join them on the court at some point during the bubble, it’s likely that the team will exercise a lot of caution with its young swingman.
