Spread across my 3 teams I've been holding G Harris, Porter, Barton, Teague, McGee, Mirotic, and now Jeremy Lamb. As guys come off of the injury list, I know I don't want to play them the first game back when they play limited minutes and are working on timing and conditioning. The question is, should I put a guy in for their third or fourth game back? I hate having them on my bench when they go off, but I hate playing them to get 6 pts on 1 for 5, 2 rebounds, 2 assists and zippo.

Dan, this sounds like a good podcast topic!

Thanks!

In a limited games format I usually wait till they get back to their regular allotment of minutes or they have atleast 1 game of regular production. Also depends if its a leg injury or upper body injury as in the 2nd type their conditioning is usually better.

Good point jbibaoiv. Upper or lower body injury does make a difference. I should have said that I play roto, 8 cat, which means I can wait for them to come around.

Thanks.

Yeah, in a roto / games-cap format be conservative about it. Don't put the guy back in your lineup until he's got a "normal" game under his belt (at least in terms of minutes if not production).

The exception would be for an early-round stud type who can produce usable numbers even on a minutes cap.

Ive had this problem with Teague all year. I have gotten it wrong every single time. For example, after 2 weeks off with ankle injury, I decided to not play him last night and he went for 20/10 asts. So difficult.

I started Teague in a games-cap league last night, but it's a 16-team league so the bar for production is lower. Rose being out was also a factor in my mind. But, if it was a 10 or 12 team league I probably wouldn't have started him. It is difficult and sometimes you get lucky or unlucky. All you can do is make the most informed decision you can and hope for the best. Erring on the side of caution with a guy coming back from an injury is still a pretty good rule of thumb, even if it didn't work out for you this time.

Pierre,
That's what I'm talking about! Frustrating, but I guess being conservative to avoid blowing a game on little production is the way to go. I wish I had that car from Back to the Future, so I would know what was going to happen. Ha!
