Hello HB Community, I need a second opinion from you. I'm currently in an auction draft 10 team, 8 cat, keeper league. We do fun things like Rookie Drafts, franchising players and long term contracts. I was fortunate enough to draft KAT and Simmons on rookie contracts. I will be building my team around KAT for now. My strategy is to punt assists and 3s. It's tough to gauge what role Simmons will have with Fultz playing point. What do you think of the punt strategy? Or can you suggest another strategy that I'm over looking.
Secondly, since I have a top 10 player should I aim for another top 10 player like Giannis, Davis, or Lillard? Or should I evenly spread out my salary and build my team around lower rounded players?
Interested to see what our experts say ... !
If you're only keeping, say, 1-3 players then you really are in 'win now' mode every year. I can see why you might start trending toward a punt 3s strategy if you're expecting big things from Simmons, but I'm not looking at one or both of these players as 'must punt' or anything like that. I think Simmons is anything but a sure thing as a fantasy asset, mainly because we need to see him take strides with the shooting. Until then it's going to be a lot of inefficient play as teams go under on the PnR. The Fultz and Embiid issues are real and they'll be struggling to learn how to play together to boot. I think you should always be targeting top-10 players no matter what, so as long as you're not crushing your budget by more than say 70-80 percent of your cap you can build arguments to make it work. It just depends on what those other options are.
Thanks for the response. I've been doing a little more research now, I'm starting to lean towards punting steals perhaps?
