I've joined a head-to-head league, 9-cat, 16 teams, auction draft for 16 players. I like the depth of the league but I'm concerned about how to go about bidding. I'm guessing that the importance of drafting a high quality top-5 player is essential in such a deep league but how high should I go with a bid for one of the elite players bearing in mind the high number of players that will be needed. How high would you go for a Curry, Harden, Westbrook type talent whilst still keeping enough in the bank for later bidding?
Hi,
In my experience, I wouldn't even try to draft any first round value players and even 2nd round value ones. Try to nominate players that won't help with the type of team you want. With such a deep league, better to do a balanced team and stock your team with lots of players ranging from 3rd - 6th round value players. This is a better approach because this shields you from injuries and the waiver wire won't have any good players left given the league size. Try to plan ahead, think of what kind of team you want to have and what cost. Then have backup players in the event other players outbid. The key to this approach is to have the discipline to hunt for bargains and not overbid for players. When your opponents start to have smaller budgets and you still have your budget intact, you'll have any player you want at bargain prices.
Good luck!
Thanks Charles. This is only my 3rd year playing fantasy basketball. Also, I'm British and most people from these shores don't care much for basketball. Your advice is much appreciated.
