Hey Guys,
So I noticed that Doncic is ranked [redacted].
Can some of the experts maybe give a bit more insight into why [feel how you do?]. I think I heard Aaron mention he has some "stat set issues", can someone maybe elaborate on this?
To me, he seems like one of the most NBA ready guys out of the rookie class as hes been playing against professionals in Europe for past few years. Not to mention he seems like he has a pretty clear path to decent minutes (I know he plays for Carlisle, but I'm hoping Carlisle doesn't view him as a typical rookie since he's been playing professionally already).
He seems to be a special talent (granted I'm no expert) and I was excited to target him this year but I'm wondering why [some feel differently]? Thanks guys!
Hey MNA - just wanted to let you know I made some edits to your post to keep any B150 secrets hidden.
This is a very interesting question. As many of you know, I hail from Sacramento and I've been both openly critical of their Marvin Bagley selection, and thought that Doncic was clearly the pick and I also thought he should have gone No. 1.
That said, the preseason opener was an eye-opener for me, and prior to that I didn't have him extremely high because of said stat set issues. Mostly, what I saw was a Mavs team that's not going to bend the offense for him, at least early. And that's important because he needs tempo and a lot of pick and roll to really unlock his gifts, and they're going to run a lot of different actions through a lot of different players. Yes, he could have easily been trying to fit in but it just seemed structurally that they're not ready to give him the rock and have everybody else play off of him as the primary.
My ranks didn't move much after that game but it did reinforce some of my inability to project a real breakout like other sites have.
Hi Aaron/Dan,
I apologize, I was mistakenly under the impression this forum is only visible to draft guide subscribers.
Oversight on my part, thanks for the edit.
